Part 3: Lake Superior

The next part of our vacation we spent up in Two Harbors, Minnesota. We rented a little cabin by Lake Superior. Before staying in the cabin, we went to a ship museum in Superior, called the S.S. Meteor Whaleback Ship Museum.  We toured it and got to see all of it’s rooms. Here are a few pictures I took of it:

An outside view of the museum.

Austin pretending to try to lift the ship’s massive anchor.  :-)

On the ship’s deck.

The ship’s kitchen.

This is part of the it’s huge engine.

After touring the museum, we settled in the cabin that was ours for the next few days. It was so fun to stay there- we went down to the beach often, and enjoyed swimming and hunting for agates. I also took pictures of the lake:

The water was very cold and extremely clear.

Wesley took this picture of me out on a rock.

All the boys and I enjoyed swimming in Lake Superior:

We also went to the harbor in Duluth. There was a huge coal ship docked there, but we couldn’t see it easily. During our time at the cabin, we could see the tiny outline of those long ships traveling across Lake Superior. It was amazing!

A tugboat that was used for giving tours.

The giant coal ship is behind this loading dock- you can just see it’s outline.

A nice couple came by and took our family picture at the harbor.

One evening during our stay at the cabin, it rained pretty hard. We could actually see the line of rain coming toward us on the water, as in this picture. It was amazing to see it creep closer and closer!

After the rainstorm, there were several beautiful rainbows. One was brilliant and the other was more subtle.

The next day we went to one of the many state parks in Minnesota. It had a waterfall, and some amazing hiking trails with beautiful scenery. We went for a hike and enjoyed the falls.

We also went to have pie at a restaurant called Betty’s Pies. We were there once before, and the pie is delicious!

I got chocolate mint pie-very tasty!

That night we had a bonfire on the beach. It was incredible to look out and see the vast Lake Superior with its waves crashing onto the rocks. What an amazing God we serve!

What a sweet time, Brooke! The water in Lake Superior is beautifully clear, isn’t it!?! I love the pictures that you got of the rocks down below the surface. I have one like that and I wish that I would have gotten more at the time. It was SO cold when I went wading. I felt like an icicle…seriously! I didn’t know if I’d EVER warm up! The photos of y’all swimming are really fun! Also, the family picture must be really nice to have.

It is so amazing when you can see the solid wall of rain sweeping towards you over a wide open space (lake, ocean, cornfield etc.) I think that it must be one of the most amazing sights. I just love seeing that veil of water heading straight towards me. Amazing, isn’t it!?! I can’t believe that you were able to get such a wonderful picture of the rainbows! I was never really able to on my Nikon, but now with my other camera, things go much better!

Hiking is so fun! You guys must have loved it. Do you now have a new view of hiking since you have a camera? Such as running to catch up after you’ve taken too many pictures of the same thing, then stopping before you’ve caught up and taking more pictures. By that time you are twice as far behind as before and can’t trust yourself to take any more pictures, so you just pass(run?)by ten things that are just begging to be photographed!?! Does this sound at all familiar? :)

AMEN! We do indeed serve an amazing God. I just wrote that in my journal this morning after my devotions. It was such a blessing to see it on your blog again this morning!

I love and miss all of you.

To God be the Glory, Love,

    Hannah
