Garden Delight

I wrote this little poem a few years ago for the fair:

Garden Delight

One early morning I peeped out the window

and a glorious sight met my eyes;

My garden was sparkling in the morning dew;

The sun was just beginning to rise;

I gathered my boots, a hat, and gloves

and paused to collect a rake and spade;

Then I hurried outside to my flower garden

where it’s brilliant colors were arrayed;

Kneeling down in the soft dark earth,

I breathed in the scent of a rose;

It was a delicious smell and I couldn’t help smiling

when it’s soft pink petals tickled my nose;

Then I began to turn up the soil

and pull up the numerous weeds;

I carefully watered each little plant

and adequately tended to its needs;

The rich purple irises stood slender and lovely

  among daffodils adorned in golden gowns;

The lilacs were bursting with fragrance and beauty

as were my white-collared daisies in their yellow crowns;

I sighed and sank into a white wicker chair

in a peaceful bliss among those flowers;

It was so sweet to be out in my garden

enjoying the wee morning hours;
